Innovation details

Benefits / Impacts

1) Equal insulation performance as existing wood-based products,
2) Very light weight, no specific training need for assembly,
3) Made from renewable, wood pulp,
4) Recycled wood can be utilized as a raw material,
5) Lowers greenhouse gas emissions and stores CO2 in building walls,
6) Easy to be recycled and used in circular economy value chains(if suitable fire retardant is used.

Technical Features

Paper pulp (CTMP) in a foam forming process. For the final panel, no glue is necessary to reach comparable properties as of other insulation materials. process: 1) Foaming of fibres and water to 50% air content, 2)Forming and drying, 3) Fire retardant treatment.

Next steps, R&D needs

1) Scale upproduction process with industry partner,
2) Fine-tuning of properties,
3) In-use monitoring in experimental building
